Marathon Birthday

I had such a great birthday this year. It started on Saturday and went all the way to Tuesday! My actual birthday is May 18th. On Saturday, Morgan and I came into Redlands. My whole family pitched in and got me an amazing camera. It is a Canon Rebel XS. I have really been into photography lately so now I can practice! Ben was really into my birthday, he just loves to celebrate, eat cake and open presents. He is so cute. He made me the card shown below and he was so happy when he gave it to me!

After I opened my gifts, Me, Angela, Lauren, Bridget, Melissa, Stephanie and my mom went out to Casino Morongo. My mom and Stephanie gambled and had a drink at the outside bar and the girls and I laid out by the pool and drank pina coladas and margaritas. It was so much fun. Later that night, we had a BBQ at my parents' house and then all of us (boys included) headed to downtown Redlands for a fun filled evening of dancing, laughing and of course drinking. The dancing at first was forced upon us by Melissa, but it ended up being a riot!

On Monday, my actual birthday, Morgan took me to Disneyland and I got in for free! If you ever want to feel not special, go to Disneyland on your birthday. It was basically every person at Disneyland's birthday! I didn't care though because Morgan always makes me feel like I am the only person around! He bought me little presents ( a Cinderella locket necklace and a leather bracelet with my name engraved in it) and we ate corn dogs and ice cream and anything else we could get our grubby hands on. It was a perfect day! I love Disneyland!

Then on Tuesday, Lauren and I had a show in Hollywood. It was my "birthday" show, but by this time I was completely over it! IT was awesome though because Lauren made the most amazing birthday cookies on the face of the earth. I dream about them every night.

Thank to everyone who made my birthday special, I love you all more than you will ever know!

Morgan Update...

Morgan went to the doctors yesterday and got a tetanus shot and was put on antibiotics. The doctor is worried about infection because there isn't a lot of flesh on the shin. We are making sure we clean it well! His leg is still really swollen and he is in pain, but his leg isn't broken! He was really worried he chipped a bone. He goes back to work tomorrow, so hopefully he isn't too miserable.

My Poor Morgan :(

Morgan crashed his bike last night while on our way to Trader Joe's to buy some groceries. His pedal snapped off and he lost control. I was ahead of him so I didn't realize he had crashed. I looked back and he was tangled in his bike. I rushed to help him out and held back tears. It was so weird. I am not a big crier, but seeing Morgan vulnerable and in pain made me feel overwhelmingly upset. I love him so much and seeing him sad made me so sad. I rushed home to get the car and rode my bike as carefully and as fast as I possibly could! I got back to him, got him home and bandaged him up.

What a horrible night!

Lauren and I have been preparing to play at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica for over a month now. It is a fairly easy thing to do.... so I thought.
In order to play at the promenade and the pier, you must have a permit. In order to get a permit you have to get 2 passport photos taken, fill out an application and take it to Santa Monica City Hall, then they have to process it so you have to come back the next day to actually retrieve the permit. The permit is a piece of neon pink paper with a bunch of rules on it and a stretched out picture of your face.

Anyways, I thought this process would be the worst of it, but boy was I wrong. Morgan, Lauren and I loaded up the car at around 6:30 PM last night to head down. The car was loaded with a full sound system, a generator, a gas tank, 2 guitars, 2 mic stands, a plastic table that was extremely cumbersome, Morgan's camera bag, a chord bag, a sign that said "The Slater Sisters" and the three of us! PHEW!

As we headed down, we were surprised that the traffic was fairly light on the 405 and the 10 fwy. I was feeling optimistic that the night wasn't going to be as annoying as the loading of the car was. Morgan tried to double park on the corner of third street and Broadway, but was immediately stopped by a bicycle cop and told to go to the alley way ahead. We did just that, but it was a fair distance to where we wanted to set up.

We unloaded the car and Morgan went to pour the gasoline into the generator and it spilled all over the place. I really tried to stay positive, but Morgan looked up and he had a look of rage in his eyes! LOL! So Lauren and I had to drag all of the equipment and generator to the area we THOUGHT we should play in. Just a side note: We were given 10 pages of rules and regulations on where we could and could not set-up and what we were allowed to bring. We failed to read those 10 pages!

Once we were all set-up I was feeling good! People were watching us and wondering when we were going to start. Then a guy came up to us and said "You can't set up here. I'm just warning you that the cops will come and say you can't be here". He then pointed to a shoe cart and said " You have to be in between that and the dinosaur hedge (which was a hedge shaped like a dinosaur)" So he showed us exactly where he thought we should set up in between the two. By that time Morgan had come back over from parking the car (which cost $3) and found out that we had to move all of our stuff again. So we dragged everything individually to the new spot and on my way back to grab more equipment a "regular" to the street performing scene stopped me. "Hey, you setting up there" I said "yes" and he said " well I'm setting up here" I was so annoyed by that point that I snapped. "How nice for you" I said. He was not please " Well you aren't going to make any money you know?" , and I wasn't pleased either, "WELL NEITHER WILL YOU!"

We were finally all set-up in our new location and feeling good.... until the bicycle police strolled up. He asked if we were new and then proceeded to give us the run-down on the rules and politics of the street performers on third street. It was very nice of him and the information was interesting. Apparently you have to move locations every 2 hours on the even hour. We had set-up at 7:30PM so we would have to change locations at 8:00 PM. The cop was going to let it slide because we were new. I was relieved, but then Morgan asked about our generator and that was it!
The police was shocked that he hadn't yet noticed the gas generator. He quickly vetoed it and explained the hazards of having a gasoline generator in a crowded place! LOL! I GUESS I understand the logic in that! Whatever! During the cops speech, I was packing up our chords and Morgan was rubbing my shoulders and telling me everything would be OK.(I love him)

The police suggested that we go without the sound system and just play acoustic. We decided it was time to go home instead and try again another day. On our way out I slammed my knee into the mic stand and then proceeded to tug our sound system back to the car and we headed home.

A good weekend!

I love Redlands more than I ever thought I would. I hadn't been home in over a month, which is a long time for me. I don't like going without seeing my family for very long. I love waking up Saturday morning and having coffee with my mom and dad. My mom is funny! She reads the paper and talks to us in between pages taking her glasses on and off so she can read and see us clearly. This weekend my dad was in and out of the house. He was watering the lawn and getting his sprinklers right! He loves his lawn more than anyone I know! Ryan and Angela usually come over with the boys and I just eat it up. Ben is usually excited to see us (as excited as Ben gets). This time we had presents with us because we hadn't seen him since we had been home from Australia. He ran in said "Hi Jilly, hi Morgie! Do you have presents?" We are trying to get him to say Aunt Jilly and Uncle Morgan. He says it ever once in a while, but Jilly and Morgie is fine for now! On Saturday we all just lounge around and then the girls went shopping.

On Sunday, Morg, Bridgie and I decided to go on a bike ride around Redlands. We rode to the Olive market, went through downtown and all around Redlands High School. It was cool to actually go through Redlands High School and show Morgan a piece of my history. Then we went down Highland Ave., which is my favorite street in Redlands. The trees line the streets and the houses are old, rustic and amazing. Bridget lives in a carriage house of an old beautiful Victorian house off Highland. We were so hot, so we decided to jump into her pool in our undies. Then I laid out for a few minutes while Bridget got dressed. It was so nice out on Sunday. The sky was perfectly blue and there was a breeze in the air. Once Bridgie came down, I picked a Redlands orange from one of her trees, ate it and enjoyed it more than any other orange I have ever eaten. Then Bridge and I rode to the store, got the fixin's for guacamole and headed home.

I have been very interested in photography lately. Morgan has an really amazing camera and quite a few lenses, but I have never used it. I have been afraid that I would break it, but I decided to take a few pictures of Benjamin on Sunday. I have a lot to learn but I thought I got a couple of cute ones.

I had a really good weekend and I realized even more how much I miss and love my family. Elliott kissed and hugged me and tried to say my name.... my heart melted.
